Guitar Lessons for Beginners in Lafayette, LA
If you've always wanted to learn guitar but talked yourself out of it, this page is for you. Most of the things people assume will hold them back simply aren't true, and I hear the same concerns over and over. Here are the honest answers to all of them.
Am I Too Old to Learn Guitar?
No. I have students across a wide range of ages and the age concern comes up constantly. The truth is that adult learners often progress faster than younger students because they're self-motivated and they actually want to be there. If you're serious about learning, age is not a factor.
Do I Need Natural Talent?
No. Talent is one of the most overrated ideas in music. What actually decides whether someone learns guitar is consistent effort and good instruction, and both of those are in your control.
What If I Have No Musical Background?
You don't need one. No theory, no reading music, no "good ear" required. Those are skills, not gifts, and you build them the same way you build everything else on the guitar: good instruction and consistent effort. Most beginners start exactly where you are. Honestly, starting from nothing just means there's nothing to unlearn.
What About Hand Size?
Not an issue. Guitars come in different sizes, and there are techniques that accommodate virtually any hand size. If it's a concern, it's something I can assess in person during your intro session.
What If I Have a Physical Limitation?
This one I take case by case. Some limitations don't affect playing at all, and others just mean adjusting technique or equipment. The best way to find out is to come in. I'll give you an honest answer during your free intro session.
What Do Beginners Work On at Lafayette School of Guitar?
From your very first session, you'll be playing real music. Most students who put in the work are strumming along to actual songs within their first month or two, sometimes sooner. You won't be stuck on boring exercises wondering if you're actually getting anywhere.
Ready to Start?
Your first session is free and there's no obligation. Come in, play some guitar, and see if it's a good fit.
